Notes- Creative Shooting

BACKGROUND
  • photo reps avg light over a timeframe <-duration=shutter speed
  • fast shutter speed = high ISO & low f#
  • slow shutter speed = low ISO speed & high f#

CONVEYING MOTION
  • when blurring a picture, there are 3 traits that need to be taken into account
    • Speed- subjects moving faster will appear more blurred
    • Direction of Motion- subjs moving towards or away from cam aren't as blurry as those moving side to side
    • Magnification- subj will appear more blurred if they occupy greater fraction of your img frame
  • moving water: shutter speed can make waterfalls appears silky or surreal
  • portrait and moving train: use slow shutter speed to emph stationary subject amongst movement
MOVING WITH THE SUBJECT&PANNING
  • a successful panning shot requires a shutter speed which is just slow enough to cause background to streak, but fast enough that subh still appears sharp

FREEZING FAST ACTION& HIGH-SPEED MOTION
  • key to capturing fast-moving subj: 'learn to anticipate when you subj will be in the desired position'
  • pre-focusing on or near your expected subject location can therefore greatly reduce shutter lag

ZOOMING BLUR
try zooming during part of exposure to lessen effect->causes subj to have incr radial blur

"What Grade Do You Think You Deserve?"

I think I deserve an 'A' in this class (and I did according to the progress report, thanks Mr B!) I make sure I log on to 'Synchron-eyes' before you finish taking attendance!  I've turned in every assignment in so far, despite some of them being late or partially done. I am productive in class, I avidly use Photoshop to work on projects. The projects that I work on are well done and creative, it's obvious that I put some effort into it rather than just shopping people's faces on things. When I'm not on the computer, I'm taking pictures with Kayla, Dylan, and Adrian. And when we go out and take pictures we actually go out and take pictures and not bother other classes or mess around or ditch. Adrian for some reason had an 'F' in this class, so we're doing our best to help him get caught up by making sure he takes pictures AND e-mail them on time. Yeah that's pretty much it.

Written Assignment: 'God Made a Farmer' Commercial

Dodge's Paul Harvey Super Bowl Commercial
An ad for Ram trucks as previewed during the Super Bowl that details a collection of photographs voiced over by Paul Harvey. The commercial was a tribute to all farmers, a group of people who are especially under-appreciated in today's view, because most people are unwilling to do the kind of jobs they do. The commercial shows them as hard workers and an important aspect of our society; they provide us with food and other agricultural sustenance.

Photo Essay- Tree

 This photo was taken near the softball fields on campus. Because the photo was taken outside, it wasn't necessary to use flash. Palm trees are a common plant found in California due to our temperate weather. Trees give us oxygen. This a nice row of palm trees. Trees also give us shade. The really good ones have fruits. Unfortunately this tree doesn't bear any. );
