Digital Cameras vs Smartphones: quality tops reason to buy camera

For the past several years, smartphones have become increasingly popular. As sales for smartphones soared, the sales of digital cameras plummeted. Phone users enjoy the convenience of taking all their pictures on the same device. Users also appreciate the spontaneity of always-on connections to the internet. Image websites have also gotten popular along with smartphones, such as Instagram. It allows users to be creative and allow image editing that coincide with their smartphones.

However, digital cameras still offer higher-quality images, a zoom feature, and other capabilities that phones don't have.  Other ways that cameras stand out to smartphones are their larger sensors, which allow for more pixels, which in turn, means a higher resolution image. Digital cameras can also withstand extremes that the delicate smartphones cannot. It can survive 30 or more feet underwater and drops of aprox 5 feet.

Camera makers are adopting the ideas of the success of smartphones by implementing a connection to the internet to share photos via email or upload them directly to Facebook.

The general consensus is that cameras are far from extinction and both smartphones and digital cameras are able to coexist and gain profit from sales. Consumers are turning into smartphones, but digital cameras are still valued for higher quality pics.
